520 _aZoology is the branch of biology that focuses on the structure, function, behaviour and evolution of animals. Our present knowledge of zoology has reached to such an extent that it has become a multi-disciplinary branch of science involving participation of the fundamental knowledge of all the basic sciences such as physics, chemistry, mathematics, geology, climatology, etc. The scope and application of zoology is vast. Its study provides a necessary knowledge and perfect understanding about almost all the spheres of life, its requirements and various ways by which they can be fulfilled. Thus, the invertebrate zoology includes most animal groups with the exception of those belonging to the subphylum Vertebrata. Invertebrate Zoology offered undergraduates studying the biology and evolution of invertebrate animals a new approach to the subject. Economic zoology deals with the application of zoological knowledge for the benefit of mankind. It includes culturing animals for mass production for human use and to control or eradicate animals that are injurious to man directly or indirectly. Vertebrate Zoology is the science of animals with backbones, that is, mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles, and fishes. At the Department of Vertebrate Zoology, we investigate the systematics, phylogenetic history and geographical distribution of those animals. It is hoped that in its present the book objective invertebrate zoology will be use university and all interested in zoology.
